International travellers departing from Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi airport (BKK) in Thailand have access to a wide choice of waiting lounges. Among them, the Oman Air First & Business Class Lounge stands out.
I visited this lounge on the evening of Saturday 4 March 2023, thanks to my DragonPass card, during a five-hour connection between a Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur and a Royal Jordanian flight to Amman, both in economy class.
Location, opening hours and entry rules
As its name suggests, the Oman Air First & Business Class Lounge welcomes first and business class passengers of Oman Air, which operates one to two daily rotations between Muscat and Bangkok. Members of the Sindbad frequent flyer program who have achieved Gold status are admitted to the lounge when traveling with Oman Air in economy class.
The lounge is also open to outside customers: members of the independent Priority Pass and DragonPass networks are welcome, regardless of the airline or class of travel.
The lounge is located in the restricted area, upstream of the boarding gates in concourse E. Passengers departing from a different concourse – in particular neighbouring concourse D, F and G – can also use the lounge. It is open 24 hours a day.
Facilities and catering
The Oman Air First & Business Class Lounge extends over two rooms.
The main room, with its dominant beige and turquoise tones, has several club armchairs and sofas with cushions in the center and on the right-hand side, flanked by small coffee tables. A work counter with universal power outlets and height chairs lines the bay window, and two iMac computers are available. There’s also a meeting table for 4 people, with a laser printer available on request.
The buffet is located in this area. Several main courses are offered, including chicken kebabs, fish, fried noodles, rice and fried vegetables. Salmon or chicken sandwiches, hummus and falafel, green salad and cheese complet the salty offer. Arabian and Western pastries, yoghurt and fruit are offered for dessert. Alcohol drinkers will find spirits, wine, local and international beers and champagne. Sodas, fruit juices and flavored milks, water, tea and coffee are also available.
The second room of the lounge is configured with several rows of the same armchairs and sofas. It contains two small bedrooms separated from the lounge by a curtain, each with a single sofa furnished with a pillow and blanket.
It is possible to take a shower in the Oman Air First & Business Class Lounge, simply ask the receptionist for access to the shower room. A bath towel, hand towel, floor towel, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion are waiting on the dressing bench. A hairdryer is on the shelf. Shaving, hair-dressing and tooth-brushing amenities are available on request. The water is hot and the pressure normal.
The Wi-Fi Internet connection, different from the network broadcast in the terminal, works well. Several Omani newspapers, in Arabic and English, are available for reading.
Opinion
The immense corridors of Bangkok airport are not very attractive, and the boarding lounges, with their rudimentary comforts, generally don’t open until an hour and a half before flight departure at the earliest. The Oman Air First & Business Class Lounge, modest in size and less crowded than other lounges on the platform, is a much more pleasant place to wait for a plane for a few hours.
In addition to the comfortable facilities in good condition and the quality catering, the lounge’s staff is attentive to every detail: the buffet is carefully presented, constantly replenished and straightened up; the tables are regularly cleared; the shower is cleaned immediately after each use and the toilets maintained.
The Oman Air First & Business Class Lounge is one of the best lounges in the Priority Pass and DragonPass networks that I have visited.
