British Airways is offering a bonus of 40% extra Avios points to all members of its British Airways Executive Club (BAEC) loyalty program who purchase Avios until 11 September 2024. I’ll tell you how to take advantage of this attractive promotion.
Buying Avios is useful:
- to top up an insufficient balance in order to qualify for an award
- when paying for a flight or upgrade with Avios costs less than the regular fare in hard currency
- to extend expiring Avios already in your account by 36 months.
Avios are sold in British pounds, US dollars and euros. The currency of payment is determined by British Airways according to the Executive Club member’s country of residence (you cannot choose your preferred payment currency).
British Airways usually sells Avios between GBP 0.025 and GBP 0.018 / USD 0.032 and 0.023 / EUR 0.030 and EUR 0.021 each (the higher the volume of Avios purchased, the lower the unit price per Avios), up to a limit of 200,000 Avios per calendar year per member.
During this special limited-time offer, all Avios purchases are rewarded with 40% more points. As a result, the cost of acquiring an Avios drops to GBP 0.013 / USD 0.016 / EUR 0.015.

To be allowed to buy points, the Avios balance in the Executive Club account must be greater than 0, or the account must have recorded at least one transaction (accumulation or redemption of points) in the last 36 months.
Before purchasing Avios, even on the occasion of a sale like this one, make sure that the desired award ticket is available and that the transaction is profitable (redemption value of the point greater than or equal to its purchase price).
To take advantage of the promotion, go to the Avios purchase page on the British Airways website and select the “Buy Avios” module. If you are not already logged in to your Executive Club account, you will need to authenticate yourself.

Avios (base and bonus) are usually deposited into the Executive Club account immediately after payment.
The promotion also makes it possible to give Avios by crediting a third person’s account (“Gift Avios” module), on the double condition that the purchaser’s account is eligible to acquire Avios and that the recipient’s account has a positive balance. The purchase limit of 200,000 Avios is assessed per beneficiary.
