Royal Jordanian operates the Crown Lounge at Amman – Queen Alia airport (AMM), which is open to travellers waiting to board an international flight departing from the Jordanian capital.

I visited this lounge in the early hours of Wednesday 9 October 2019, thanks to my Priority Pass card, during a layover in Amman between two Royal Jordanian economy class flights to Tunis from Hong Kong.

Location, opening hours and entry rules

The Crown Lounge is obviously open to passengers traveling in business class with Royal Jordanian, but not only: all the other airlines send their high-spending customers to wait for their flight in this lounge.

Frequent flyers in economy class are also welcome in the lounge, depending on the rules of the airline’s loyalty program to which they belong.

Members of the independent Dragonpass, Lounge Club and Priority Pass programs have access to the Crown Lounge.

You can also buy an entry ticket for JOD 30 on the Royal Jordanian website or at the airport.

The lounge is open 24 hours a day. In the restricted area, it overlooks the duty-free stores located after the security checks. Continue straight ahead through the shops, the entrance is at the end of the hall on the right. A dedicated lift takes you upstairs.

Royal Jordanian limits the duration of a stay in its lounge to 3 hours for Priority Pass members. To ensure compliance with this rule, the front desk agent only authorizes entry 3 hours before the boarding time indicated on the boarding pass.

Facilities and catering

At the time of my visit, the Crown Lounge was partially under renovation. Only the north wing, opposite the reception desk, was accessible. It is divided into several areas:

  • a main dining area, with food buffets, tables and chairs
  • a large central bar, with alcoholic beverages prominently displayed, and counter chairs
  • rest areas on the sides, equipped with coffee tables framed by armchairs and sofas
  • 3 individual entertainment booths with armchair and TV screen
  • an isolated smoking area.

The furniture is modern, in good condition and clean. The lounge is pretty bright thanks to the terminal’s large picture windows.

Entering at around 7am, there aren’t many people around. Breakfast service is being installed.

The choice offered for the morning hours is relatively wide: fresh vegetables, fruits, hummus, cheeses, sandwiches with various fillings, cereals, breads and pastries, oriental cakes.

In addition to automatic machines for hot drinks, juice dispensers and fridges stocked with water and sodas, the bar offers a variety of wines, liqueurs and spirits at all hours.

The terminal’s general Wi-Fi internet connection is accessible and functional.

The lounge will fill up as the morning’s passengers arrive, and will soon be saturated. There isn’t enough room to accommodate everyone in the best possible conditions.

Opinion

Main lounge at Amman Queen Alia International Airport, the Royal Jordanian Crown Lounge is very crowded. At peak times, the lounge is no longer an oasis of peace and quiet. It is to be hoped that the renovation of the south wing will be completed soon, so that the missing space can be reinstated.

Leaving aside this undoubtedly temporary problem, the service offered by the Crown Lounge is satisfactory: spaces adapted to the different activities possible in a lounge, a suitable catering offer for breakfast, a large number of staff on hand to renew the buffets and keep the premises clean.
