The Marriott Bonvoy hotel loyalty program is offering a bonus of up to 45% additional points to all members who purchase points until 23 December 2024. I’ll tell you how to take advantage of this attractive promotion.

Buying points is useful:

  • to top up an insufficient points balance to qualify for a free stay
  • when paying for a night with points costs less than the regular hard currency rate
  • to extend expiring points already in your account by 24 months.

Points can be used at any of the program’s 30 brands: AC Hotels, Aloft, Autograph Collection, Courtyard, Delta Hotels, Design Hotels, Edition, Element, Fairfield, Four Points, Gaylord, Homes & Villas, JW Marriott, Le Meridien, Marriott, Marriott Executive Appartments, Marriott Vacation Club, Moxy, Protea, Renaissance, Residence Inn, Sheraton, Springhill Suites, St Regis, The Luxury Collection, The Ritz-Carlton, Townplace Suites, Tribute Portfolio, W Hotels and Westin. Free nights must be booked on the Marriott website.

To be allowed to buy points, the Marriott Bonvoy account must have been registered more than 30 days ago (new accounts are not eligible).

Marriott Bonvoy usually sells its points at USD 12.50 per 1,000 points (i.e. $0.0125 each) and sets a purchase limit of 100,000 points per calendar year per member. Points can be purchased in increments of 1,000 up to 50,000 points, and in increments of 5,000 beyond that.

During this special limited-time offer:

  • buy 2,000 points or more and be rewarded with 45% more points
  • buy 20,000 points or more and receive an additional gift of 1,000 points (on top of the 45% bonus)
  • the annual purchase cap is increased to 150,000 points.

As a result, the cost of acquiring a point drops to a low of $0.0083 provided a block of precisely 20,000 points is acquired. For other tiers, the price per point rises slightly to $0.0086. Marriott Bonvoy members can receive up to 218,500 points (150,000 points purchased + 67,500 bonus points + 1,000 gift points).

Marriott Bonvoy promotion 45% bonus points
Points purchased Bonus Total points credited Cost per point
1,000 points ($12.50) no 1,000 points $0,0125
From 2,000 points ($25.00) to 19,000 points ($237.50) 45% 2,900 to 27,550 points $0,0086
From 20,000 points ($250.00) to 150,000 points ($1,875.00) 45% + 1,000 points 30,000 to 218,500 points between $0.0083 and $0.0086

Unfortunately, not all members are eligible for this 45% bonus. For some of them, the bonus rate is 35% or 40%, i.e. a floor price per point of $0.0089 or $0.0086 respectively (for a block of 20,000 points). The actual bonus offered can be discovered by initiating a points buying transaction.

Before buying points, even on the occasion of a sale like this one, make sure that the desired award is available and that the transaction is profitable (exchange value of the point greater than or equal to its purchase price).

To take advantage of the promotion, go to this page on the Marriott website and select the “Buy Points” module. If you are not already logged in to your Marriott Bonvoy account, you will need to authenticate yourself.

Points purchased through this mechanism are not qualifying and therefore do not allow you to progress in the loyalty program’s Elite status.

Although a 72 hours processing time is announced, base points and bonus are usually deposited into the Marriott Bonvoy account within hours of payment. However, the 1,000 gift points for the purchase of at least 20,000 points will be credited separately during January 2025.

The promotion also makes it possible to give Marriott Bonvoy points by crediting a third person’s account (“Gift Points” module). The purchase limit of 150,000 points is assessed per beneficiary.
