The Marriott Bonvoy hotel loyalty program is offering a bonus of 40% additional points to all members who purchase points until 17 September 2025. I’ll tell you how to take advantage of this attractive promotion.
Buying points is useful:
- to top up an insufficient points balance to qualify for a free stay
- when paying for a night with points costs less than the regular hard currency rate
- to extend expiring points already in your account by 24 months.
Points can be used at any of the program’s 30 brands: AC Hotels, Aloft, Autograph Collection, Courtyard, Delta Hotels, Design Hotels, Edition, Element, Fairfield, Four Points, Gaylord, Homes & Villas, JW Marriott, Le Meridien, Marriott, Marriott Executive Appartments, Marriott Vacation Club, Moxy, Protea, Renaissance, Residence Inn, Sheraton, Springhill Suites, St Regis, The Luxury Collection, The Ritz-Carlton, Townplace Suites, Tribute Portfolio, W Hotels and Westin. Free nights must be booked on the Marriott website.
To be allowed to buy points, the Marriott Bonvoy account must have been registered more than 30 days ago (new accounts are not eligible).
Marriott Bonvoy usually sells its points at USD 12.50 per 1,000 points (i.e. $0.0125 each) and sets a purchase limit of 150,000 points per calendar year per member. Points can be purchased in increments of 1,000 up to 50,000 points, and in increments of 5,000 beyond that.
During this special limited-time offer, buy from 2,000 points and be rewarded with 40% more points. As a result, the cost of acquiring a point drops to a low of $0.0089 and Marriott Bonvoy members can receive up to 210,000 points (150,000 points purchased + 60,000 bonus points).
| Points purchased | Bonus | Total points credited | Cost per point |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 points ($12.50) | no | 1,000 points | $0,0125 |
| From 2,000 points ($25.00) to 150,000 points ($1,875.00) | 40% | 2,800 to 210,000 points | $0,0089 |
Before buying points, even on the occasion of a sale like this one, make sure that the desired award is available and that the transaction is profitable (exchange value of the point greater than or equal to its purchase price).
To take advantage of the promotion, go to this page on the Marriott website and select the “Buy Points” module. If you are not already logged in to your Marriott Bonvoy account, you will need to authenticate yourself.
Points purchased through this mechanism are not qualifying and therefore do not allow you to progress in the loyalty program’s Elite status.
Although a 72 hours processing time is announced, base points and bonus are usually deposited into the Marriott Bonvoy account within hours of payment.
The promotion also makes it possible to give Marriott Bonvoy points by crediting a third person’s account (“Gift Points” module). The purchase limit of 150,000 points is assessed per beneficiary.
