The IHG One Rewards hotel loyalty program is offering a bonus of 100% additional points to all its members who purchase points until 9 October 2024. I’ll tell you how to take advantage of this attractive promotion.
Buying points is useful:
- to top up an insufficient points balance to qualify for a Reward Night award
- when paying for a night with points costs less than the regular hard currency rate
- to extend expiring points already in your account by 12 months (non-status members).
Points can be used at any of the 20 IHG brands: Atwell Suites, Avid, Candlewood Suites, Crowne Plaza, Even Hotels, Garner, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn Resort, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, Hotel Indigo, Hualuxe, Iberostar Beachfront Resorts, InterContinental, Kimpton, Regent, Six Senses, Staybridge Suites, Vignette Collection and Voco. Reward Nights must be booked on the IHG website.
IHG One Rewards usually sells its points between USD 0.0135 and USD 0.01 each (the greater the volume of points purchased, the lower the unit price per point), up to a limit of 150,000 points per calendar year per member.
During this special limited-time offer, purchases of 11,000 points or more are rewarded with 100% more points. The acquisition cost per point drops as low as USD 0.005, a floor rate reached from 26,000 points.
All IHG One Rewards members can therefore receive up to 300,000 points (150,000 points purchased + 150,000 bonus points).
Points purchased | Bonus | Total points credited | Cost per point |
---|---|---|---|
From 1,000 points ($13.50) to 10,000 points ($135.00) | no | 1,000 to 10,000 points | $0.0135 |
From 11,000 points ($126.50) to 25,000 points ($287.50) | 100% | 22,000 to 50,000 points | $0.0058 |
From 26,000 points ($260.00) to 150,000 points ($1,500.00) | 100% | 52,000 to 300,000 points | $0.0050 |
Before buying points, make sure that the desired award is available and that the transaction is profitable (redemption value of the point greater than or equal to its purchase price).
Example: this room at the InterContinental New York Times Square, priced at USD 287, only costs USD 200 when the 32,000 points required to book it as a Reward Night are acquired at the lowest price of $0.005 ($160), not forgetting the $40 amenity fee which is not included in the award and will be collected on arrival, for a savings of 30%.
To take advantage of the promotion, go to the points purchase page on the IHG website. If you are not already logged in to your IHG One Rewards account, you will need to authenticate yourself.
Points purchased through this mechanism are not qualifying and therefore do not allow you to progress in the loyalty program’s Elite tier.
Base and bonus points are deposited into the member’s IHG One Rewards account within 72 hours of payment, usually much sooner.
